The plot unfolds as each eventually finds potential partners, but only until the necessary amount of comedic scenes with standard characters are played out widely enough. The comedy moments were like a movie different from what it should have been.
However, screen veteran Tatsuya Fujii plays Tatsuo with miserly enthusiasm, and Kumiko Aso provides attentive support as Haru
The scenes with Fuji as Kumi Nakamura as a terminally ill elderly woman were impressive, although the atomic bomb connection seemed contrived to add even more confusion to the film. Naomi Kawase’s film “An (Sweet Bean)” from 2015 can be named as an equally poignant film about the artistry of unique Japanese cuisine.
