D Gukesh became the first Indian teenager to beat Magnus Carlsen in a rated Blitz game. Last year, Gukesh became the youngest ever to beat Magnus Carlsen but that was an online event. This win is sweeter because Gukesh did it in his first-ever rated Blitz game against the World no.1. The icing on the cake is, it was on his 17th birthday. He defeated Anish Giri and drew against Hikaru Nakamura. The birthday boy scored 2.5/9 and finished tenth. Carlsen also did not have the best day as he scored only 50%, 4.5/9 to finish seventh. The 44th Chess Olympiad Gold medalist, Nodirbek Abdusattorov scored 6/9 to win the Blitz tournament. The Blitz event was to determine the seeding for the Main event, the Classical tournament.
